Bouts 1 - Updated Mon, May 13 2024
Erika Cruz is slated to defend her WBA junior featherweight title against Nazarena Romero on Saturday, May 11. The bout will take place at the Palenque de la Feria National de San Marcos in Aguascalientes, Mexico, serving as the co-main event alongside Eduardo Hernandez's junior lightweight match against Daniel Lugo. Cruz, hailing from Mexico, boasts a record of 17-2 with 3 knockouts and is a two-division champion. She secured the WBA featherweight title with a technical decision win over Jelena Mrdjenovich in April 2021. After successfully defending the title twice, she relinquished it to Amanda Serrano in a unification clash in February 2023. Moving up in weight, Cruz clinched the WBA title at 122 pounds by defeating Mayerlin Rivas in November of the same year. Her opponent, Romero, holds a record of 13-0-1 with 7 knockouts and represents Argentina. Romero faced Rivas for the WBA junior featherweight title in June, but their encounter ended in a technical draw due to a cut over Romero's left eye caused by an accidental head clash. Now, Romero gets another shot at the same title against Cruz.
